My name is Jamie and I live in Liverpool I am the sole founder of brand Dorathy & J and work there full time. I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to be growing up I got the relevant GCSE's to get me into a college in Wigan I was aiming to complete my A-levels in. I then received a A* in Law, A in biology and B in maths meaning I could go on to study Physiology at the University of Liverpool. I left without completing my degree in my 2nd year and went to work at Barclays Bank until June 21. In my 2nd year of working at the bank and roughly 1 year after having my first child I decided to start my side hustle. Facts about me:
I love pale rose, eating out and online shopping. My favourite 3 places are home, the Lake District and Ibiza. I am such an introvert but very social online. My favourite colour is green. I am a workaholic. I am a huge family person. I never skip breakfast. Addicted to Matcha, Instagram and my kids.
In October 2016, I started a brand called Dotty Fourrure and sold fur pom pom keyrings. I sewn ribbons and customised them with initials. Considering I created a whole brand based on key-rings, there was a huge demand and people still ask if I make them today.
I didn't see a future expanding key rings and decided to rebrand. I had already started selling accessories on the side to bulk up orders and decided to solely concentrate on this in September 2018. My new brand, Dorathy & J would sell dainty jewellery and focus on stacking, which I already loved.
In the following year I gained 10k followers and traveled to places like Ibiza and Paris for photoshoots.
At this point the pandemic hit and I took the opportunity to work harder than ever knowing online growth in these circumstances was so attainable and a one off.
I am always being honest and personal with my followers and customers and feel like we have such a strong bond! This is definitely my greatest achievment at D&J.
I completed my body piercing course in December 2019 and converted a home studio where Is stayed for 2 years.
I done so much growing and learning in my first studio at home but it was time to grow into something a little bigger.
I then completed the hub renovation for my new piercing room in October 2022 and that's where I am now based.
The studio is so friendly and welcoming and something I am extremely proud of.
We extended our studio in early 2023 to double our size and accommodate our new piercer and staff member Ella!
Ella completed a 5 day piercing diploma and I went along with her too as there is no such thing as too much learning!
I am excited to see where the journey takes me next..
On February 4th 2024 we launched our permanent jewellery service in store. The soft launch was at a piercing party we were hosting and collaborating with Charlotte Tilbury. It was so fun to see how intrigued people were about the service and how much joy it brought them watching their jewellery come to life with the welding spark! This is something we wanted to do for a very long time but with an extremely busy schedule it took us a while to get round to it. I have to say that it was definitely worth the wait. With our handmade tiled table, perfect dainty chains and a special complimentary polaroid it really is the most special experience.
